      I have owned this vehicle for a short while now and I have seen mixed reviews that are up and down. I was in the market for a new vehicle and bought the laser blue limited model. The vehicle itself looks very stylish, from a distance in the lot I thought it was a Cherokee. Sitting down inside there was plenty of room.Cargo capacity seems decent for a small suv style. The 8.4 inch Uconnect radio was very nice and easy to navigate. There are a ton of options since it is the limited model, the one I was in had a cold weather package (heated driver/passenger seat and steering wheel). Back seat had fold down cup holders and vents for cold and hot air. The pure perforated leather seats are nice. Driving the vehicle feels solid and not loose. The turn radius is good and the vehicle itself is not overly loud. The auto off when stopped is annoying but can be gotten used to over time, I can see if you are stuck in rush hour where this could save a ton of gas. The vehicle accelerates good but not a good idea to jam on the accelerator like its a race car, the vehicle will jerk you.Tested it a little off road,Had superb handing on dirt. Not much more in this class than can handle off road like this did I think. Gas mileage is pretty spot on, I was getting around 25 average Overall I think this is a great vehicle for the price, it was cheaper than a lot of other different cars in the small suv class. I bought the vehicle for city and rural driving and i think it will hold up wonderfully from what I have seen so far.

      I purchased a 2018 Compass Latitude 4x4 with a 6-speed manual in November 2017. I have driven it for 3 months and just over 5,000 miles. I love this SUV! Gas mileage is good. I live in the country and have a long commute on the interstate highway to work. Since my driving is skewed toward highway driving, my 28+ average mpg is not too surprising and quite welcome. Take note that I have observed that highway mpg drops off quickly driving faster than 70 mph. I estimate it gets maybe 26 mpg at 75 and maybe 23 mpg at 80. I mostly drive around the speed limit with the flow of traffic which gets me my 28+ average mpg. I can get up to 36 MPG at 50-55 mph. The engine doesnt have much power below 2,000 RPM, so letting the engine rev up the rpms when accelerating helps get it up to speed. If traffic is heavy and I am merging onto an interstate, I keep it in 3rd gear from the ramp speed of 35-40 mph all the way up to 70 mph. Flooring it in 3rd gear gets me to merging speed in good time. At 70 the tach is at ~4,500 rpm so its well below the red line. The manual transmission shifts extremely well and the clutch also works very well. It also seems to have hill control that I do not see documented; when I take my foot off the brake the car holds the hill for a few seconds until I engage the clutch. I do not roll backwards right away after releasing the brake. The brakes are a little touchy, but Ive adjusted to them. Much better than mushy brakes that do not seem to slow the car down. On the road the Compass very composed. Steering is very predictable and it holds the road well. The ride is very comfortable for a small vehicle. The front seats are firm, but I find them very comfortable. After about 4.5 hours of driving with minimal stops I felt no discomfort at all from sitting in it. The rear seat backs seem a little to upright, but I did not find them uncomfortable on a trip. Leg room is good in the rear seats. The reason I purchased a Compass 4x4 was to survive snowy commutes in Western Michigan where lake effect snow is frequent. The Compass, like most (maybe all) Jeeps has selectable 4x4 settings based on the different outside conditions (Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud for the Compass Latitude). Dialing in Snow, locks in the 4x4 and the system tunes it for maximum traction in snowy slippery conditions. I have commuted through several snow storms so far and the Compass gets an A+ for getting through the snow. When conditions are bad, I drive the speed of the vehicles in front of me and give them a long lead so if something happens, I can react. I drove about 110 miles through a snow storm at 35-45 mph on the highway one evening and it was almost RELAXING. Absolutely no drama while driving with a few inches of snow on the highway. My passenger and I had a pleasant conversation while the Compass kept the wheels from slipping during any accelerations. No slipping or sliding at all while moving with traffic. The anti-lock brakes also worked well when I needed to slow down. I cant ask for more. AWD and 4WD systems from different manufacturers are NOT equal. Jeep seems to have one of the best systems around for when the weather gets bad. The infotainment system seems top notch. I have the 7 Uconnect and I have no complaints. The cold weather group is wonderful. It includes the heated steering wheel which is great. Most vehicles only offer the heated steering wheel in the highest trim level. In the Compass its part of an option package, and I wish more cars offered it that way. The storage in back is small enough that using the Compass as a vacation vehicle for a family of 4 could be very cramped. However, with the rear seat backs down it would be great for 2 people to load up and hit the road though. So far, our Compass has had zero repair issues. It has been simply great! I would not trade this SUV for anything else. The combination of fuel economy, ride, options and content, and foul weather performance is very hard to beat, and with incentives, its priced well below most competitors.

      Living in the VT mountains have had similar small AWD SUVs and if your wife having to walk home in an ice storm is cool with you go for one of those. I never write reviews but after reading all the bad ones for the Compass I guess I was motivated to correct the disinformation. If you want a small, affordable, easy to drive comfortable SUV that actually becomes a true 4x4 ice and snow machine when you need it to be get the 4x4 Compass. There is not another option like it in this price range. If you live in Florida or southern California and give this SUV a bad review please go for it so the folks that actually need a capable small SUV can get used ones at reasonable prices.
